Fault Detection in HVAC Equipment
Properly sized HVAC systems should provide your living area with adequate air
at a comfortable temperature and last for many years, but there are many HVAC
systems that are poorly operated or maintained by the owner and can contribute
to poor indoor air quality and problematic mechanical systems. I am able to
thermally scan for problem areas within your HVAC unit. Temperature variations
found during an infrared HVAC inspection will indicate even the smallest of
problems, subsequently averting any unscheduled down time or excessive damage to
your mechanical equipment. The thermal patterns of HVAC motors, pumps, fans,
bearings, compressors, heating elements, humidifiers, etc. can be analyzed for
overheating, faults, and any decrease in efficiency. Fatigue and stress
concentration in HVAC components can be easily detected and verified along with
any air conditioner compressor leaks, if equipped.
Another issue I continuously encounter in most HVAC units is the large number
of supply and return ducts that are leaking excessive air at the connection
seams throughout long runs and at the supply register connections. This is due
to improper or shoddy installation of the duct work. According to national
surveys, duct leakage in residential systems typically amounts to 20% to 40% of
the conditioned air that is suppose to be delivered through the duct work.
That's a lot of wasted energy dollars that can be easily corrected, once I
locate these breaches.
There are also many vent connector flue leaks that go undetected, which could
cause a deadly carbon monoxide build-up. By utilizing my infrared camera while
performing your HVAC inspection, I am able to locate the HVAC inefficiencies
that can normally go undetected in the course of my standard visual inspection,
simply because these hot spots are invisible to the naked eye. I will be able to
point out where these defects are actually located and then compile this
information into a formal Infrared HVAC Report which will include descriptions
of the defect with side-by-side digital and infrared photos. Don't allow your
heating and A/C system to become problematic when you need it most. An infrared
inspection of your HVAC unit will detect minor issues before they become costly
repairs.

You're unable to visually observe hot spots,
but infrared imaging will detect every surface temperature.
